Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers - Exercise Needs
Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, called lovingly Wheatens, originated as a hunting breed. They were originally used as guarding, herding, and hunting dogs and have preserved their working characteristics over time. The breed is energetic and courageous. Like all terriers, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier enjoys a long walk and is always in search of adventure.
Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers - Grooming
The breed has a silky coat that tends to mat unless combed daily. Brushing is not recommended for these dogs since the coat turns fuzzy. Breeders and owners prefer to groom their dogs once a week. Trimming is applied occasionally. Dogs over seven months and under two years of age have greater grooming needs. As the adult coat comes in, grooming sessions can be reduced. Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers do not shed.
