Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers are medium-sized, squarely built dogs. These strong dogs move with grace and show their beauty proudly. They have a soft wheaten-colored coat that needs to be combed daily to prevent it from getting matted. Puppies are usually born black. Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers acquire wheaten color by the age of two years old.

A rectangular head with a short muzzle characterizes the breed. The strong jaws meet in a scissors or level bite. The eyes are of almond shape. The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier has straight bony front legs. The tail is carried upright.
The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier has good hunting instincts and is ready to pursue its goals with great determination. However, the breed is not aggressive. Just the other way around, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier tends to have strong links with its owners. The breed is devoted, yet is not used as
a personal protection dog. Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers make good watchdogs. They announce the arrival of guests, both invited and uninvited. Although the breed is not rare and is gaining popularity, it is not always easy to find Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers.

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers are mellow companions that are suited for families with children. These dogs make wonderful pets since they are playful and energetic. The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is always gentle and shows great grace and intelligence. They should be socialized to get along well with other canines. However, the task of socializing them with cats is rarely fulfilled.
